2009 Calender Week 45, November 2nd
This site lists the Internet resources, software, search engines etc. which the author finds the most useful. The idea is to present with a short description only the arguably very best findings in various categories. The criteria for inclusion are:
- Usability
- Free availability (only freeware, where downloads are concerned)
- Ease of handling (no IT expertise required)
The Internet will be continuously monitored for new developments, but of the hundreds of findings within a week only a few, if none at all for individual weeks may be included here.

| With this tool one can make a search bookmarklet. Now what is a bookmarklet? It is a little Java-Script application which can be saved like a bookmark and executes what is the command of the Java-Script. In this case we are dealing with a script that will execute a search in a search engine of one's choice. This will either be possible upon a double-click on the book- marklet. Then a search box will pop up. The other way to do it is to highlight an expression on a webpage and then doubleclick the bookmarklet. This will perform a search for the highlighted expression in the chosen SE. Of course, one could also write the Java-Script, but the tool does all the work. |
printfriendly.com makes any Internet-page easy to print in a comfortable page format. It is the tool which spares the look for the "printerfriendly" link on a page that would not print easily otherwise. The tool also comes with a bookmarklet which can be dragged to the bookmarks toolbar in Firefox. Upon double-click it will generate a printerfrindly version of the page currently visited. |
This is a speed reader which allows to read at a speed of 300 words per minute with the contents sticking. Higher speeds are possible with this tool, but the stickiness might not be there in individual cases. It comes with various tools to integrate into browsers etc. Again a bookmarklet is offered. |
