2009 Calender Week 52, December 21st
This site lists the Internet resources, software, search engines etc. which the author finds the most useful. The idea is to present with a short description only the arguably very best findings in various categories. The criteria for inclusion are:
- Usability

- Free availability (only freeware, where downloads are concerned)

- Ease of handling (no IT expertise required)

The Internet will be continuously monitored for new developments, but of the hundreds of findings within a week only a few, if none at all for individual weeks may be included here.

| A gallery of high quality astronomical images, each image in various resolutions. The largest files have a warning that the download might overstrain some PCs. | A multi-dictionary plus translation software. Dictionaries from the web can be added. It comes with a user manual. Instant translation of a highlighted text is also possible, but may at times be rather disturbing. Of course, machine-translations are never good enough to use them in a letter. However, they may give clues about contents written in a foreign language. | This Firefox Addon has similar features as the previous entry, and it is hard to decide which is better. Hence they are both offered here. | This database offers details about chemical structures and makes use of further databases possible as well. | A texteditor which offers more facilities than the average spartanic texteditors do. It is also convenient for writing source codes in html etc. |
